COLUMBIA-GREENE COUNTY NEWS 10-20-14


A SERIOUS ACCIDENT SATURDAY NIGHT SENT THREE PEOPLE
TO AREA HOSPITALS. TAGHKANIC FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO THE
TACONIC PARKWAY AT ROUTE 82, WHERE A CAR ROLLED OVER
IN THE NORTHBOUND LANES. ONE PERSON WAS AIRLIFTED TO
ALBANY MED, TWO OTHERS WERE TAKEN TO COLUMBIA
MEMORIAL.


AN 81 YEAR OLD MAN DIED SUNDAY AFTERNOON AFTER A 2
CAR ACCIDENT IN RED HOOK. POLICE IDENTIFIED HIM AS
IRVING DONAHUE OF RED HOOK. THE CRASH WAS ON WEST
MARKET STREET.


A BICYCLE RIDER WAS TAKEN TO NORTHERN DUTCHESS
HOSPITAL YESTERDAY, AFTER THEY COLLIDED WITH A CAR
IN CLERMONT. THE ACCIDENT WAS ON COUNTY ROUTE 6.


THE COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE IS INVESTIGATING
AN INCIDENT IN COPAKE SATURDAY, WHERE A MAN WAS
SHOT THROUGH BOTH LEGS WITH AN ARROW. FIRE AND
RESCUE CREWS RESPONDED TO THE SCENE, ON COUNTY
ROUTE 7. THE MAN WAS AIRLIFTED TO ALBANY MED.


ANOTHER MAN WAS TAKEN TO ALBANY MED BY HELICOPTER
AFTER HE WAS PINNED UNDER A ROLLED OVER TRACTOR.
FIRE AND RESCUE CREWS WERE CALLED TO AN AREA
OFF ROUTE 22 IN CANAAN. STATE POLICE ARE
INVESTIGATING.


A SELKIRK MAN IS FACING FELONY CHARGES AFTER HIS
ARREST BY STATE POLICE FOR AN INCIDENT IN THE TOWN OF
COXSACKIE. 25 YEAR OLD NICHOLAS MERRILL IS CHARGED WITH
RAPE, WITH A VICTIM UNDER 17. HE WAS ALSO CHARGED WITH
FORCIBLE TOUCHING AND HELD ON CASH BAIL.


A COHOES MAN IS ACCUSED OF BRINGING ILLEGAL CONTRABAND
INTO THE BROOKWOOD SECURE CENTER IN CLAVERACK. STATE
POLICE CHARGED 40 YEAR OLD MIAH BURNS WITH OFFICIAL
MISCONDUCT AND INTRODUCING ILLEGAL CONTRABAND INTO
PRISON. HE WAS CHARGED AT THE LIVINGSTON BARRACKS
AND GIVEN APPEARANCE TICKETS FOR COURT.


ANOTHER ARREST BY CATSKILL POLICE, AT THE CATSKILL
WALMART. 25 YEAR OLD SARA GAYLORD OF PHILMONT WAS
CHARGED WITH PETIT LARCENY AND BURGULARY FOR
ALLEGEDLY SHOPLIFTING AT THE STORE. THE BURGULARY
CHARGE IS BECAUSE THE WOMAN IS NOT PERMITTED AT
THE STORE.

AN EAST DURHAM MAN IS IN THE GREENE COUNTY JAIL ON
FELONY DRUG CHARGES. STATE POLICE REPORT 33 YEAR
OLD WILLIAM MARINO WAS INDICTED BY A GREENE COUNTY
GRAND JURY AFTER A MONTH LONG INVESTIGATION INTO
THE SALE OF HEROIN AND SUBOXONE IN THE TOWNS OF
DURHAM AND CAIRO. HE'S BEING HELD WITHOUT BAIL.


TWO PRATTSVILLE MEN ARE ACCUSED OF STEALING OVER
17 THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM A CUSTOMER OF THEIR BUSINESS,
PARADISE COMPUTERS. STATE POLICE CHARGED 44 YEAR OLD
LAWRENCE LUDWIG AND 69 YEAR OLD CHARLES DAVIS WITH
FELONY GRAND LARCENY. BOTH MEN WERE SENT TO THE
GREENE COUNTY JAIL.


TWO COLUMBIA COUNTY RESIDENTS ARE CHARGED WITH
FALSELY REPORTING AN INCIDENT, AFTER FIREMEN WERE
CALLED TO 4976 ROUTE 81 IN GREENVILLE THURSDAY
EVENING. THE TWO, 17 YEAR OLD SHANNON THORNTON OF
HILLSDALE AND A 15 YEAR OLD CRARYVILLE GIRL, WERE
GIVEN APPEARANCE TICKETS BY STATE POLICE.


SEVERAL FIRE COMPANIES WERE ON THE SCENE OF A SHED
FIRE YESTERDAY IN NIVERVILLE. THE FIRE, A 3 KIPP LANE
ALSO INVOLVED A WOOD PILE.


RESCUE CREWS FROM DUTCHESS AND ULSTER COUNTY RESPONDED
TO THE HUDSON RIVER YESTERDAY AFTER A KAYAK OVERTURNED
SOUTH OF KRUGER ISLAND IN RED HOOK. THE MAN WAS PULLED
TO SAFETY AROUND A HALF HOUR LATER.


MEMBERS OF THE HUDSON VALLEY SMART ENERGY COALITION
WILL HOLD A PROGRAM ON PROPOSED POWER LINES TODAY AT THE
CHURCHTOWN FIREHOUSE. A PRESENTATION WILL BE MADE BY AN
INDEPENDENT PHYSICIST, THAT WILL SHOW EXISTING
POWERLINES CAN MEET DEMAND WELL INTO THE FUTURE. THE
PROPOSED TRANSMISSION LINES WOULD PASS THROUGH SEVEN
COUNTIES. THE PROGRAM RUNS FROM 1 TO 3PM.

A COLUMBIA COUNTY MAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH AN
EAST GREENBUSH BANK ROBBERY BACK IN FEBRUARY.
34 YEAR OLD CHRISTOPHER BLAIR OF HILLSDALE IS
ACCUSED OF ROBBING THE T.D. BANKNORTH BRANCH ON
TROY ROAD. HE'S IN THE RENSSELAER COUNTY JAIL.
BLAIR IS ALSO FACING CHARGES WITH THE ROBBERY
OF A BANK IN STOCKBRIDGE MASSACHUSETTS IN MARCH.


GOVERNOR CUOMO OUTLINED AN EBOLA PREPAREDNESS
PLAN FOR THE STATE YESTERDAY, WHICH INCLUDES
UNANNOUNCED TRAINING DRILLS IN HEALTH FACILITIES,
MASS TRANSIT CENTERS, AND COLLEGE CAMPUSES. EIGHT
HOSPITALS STATEWIDE WILL CARE FOR POTENTIAL PATIENTS.

AFTER A LARCENY INVESTIGATION IN THE TOWN OF
KINDERHOOK, A PHILMONT MAN IS ARRESTED ON FELONY
CHARGES. STATE POLICE CHARGED 28 YEAR OLD MICHAEL
BRIZZIE WITH GRAND LARCENY OF A FIREARM. HE WAS
HELD ON A BAIL BOND.


A COLUMBIA COUNTY WOMAN WILL SPEND THE NEXT TWO YEARS
IN STATE PRISON AFTER BEING CONVICTED ON ATTEMPTED
BURGULARY CHARGES, AT A STOCKPORT HOME. MANDI LAWSON
WAS SENTENCED YESTERDAY IN COLUMBIA COUNTY COURT.
SHE WAS ARRESTED IN MARCH 2013.


CATSKILL FIRE AND AMBULANCE WERE ON THE SCENE OF
A PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENT THURSDAY MORNING.
THE CRASH WAS ON ROUTE 9W, SOUTH OF THE VILLAGE.
THE ACCIDENT CLOSED THE ROAD FOR CLOSE TO AN HOUR.


COLUMBIA COUNTY LEADS THE HUDSON VALLEY, WITH THE
HIGHEST GROWTH RATE OF NEW JOBS CREATED IN SEPTEMBER.
THE COUNTY CAME IN AT 2.4 PERCENT, COMPARED TO THE
SAME MONTH LAST YEAR. IN GREENE COUNTY, JOBS GREW
BY ONE PERCENT.


TEN MILLION DOLLARS IN GRANTS ARE HEADED TO 57
COUNTIES IN THE STATE TO SUPPORT EMERGENCY RESPONSE
OPERATIONS. COLUMBIA COUNTY IS SCHEDULED TO
RECEIVE OVER 160 THOUSAND DOLLARS, GREENE COUNTY,
OVER 151 THOUSAND. THE GRANTS ARE FROM THE STATE
DIVISION OF HOMELAND SECURITY.


WITH NO BIG WINNERS IN SEVERAL MONTHS THE MEGA MILLIONS
JACKPOT HAS GROWN TO 180 MILLION DOLLARS. NEW YORK
STATE LOTTERY OFFICIALS REPORT STRONG SALES AHEAD OF

THE GREENE COUNTY LEGISLATURE VOTED LAST NIGHT TO
EXCEED THE TAX LEVY CAP FOR NEXT YEAR'S BUDGET.
LAWMAKERS SAY THE VOTE IS JUST A PRECAUTION, AND STILL
HOPE TO PRESENT A BUDGET WITHIN THE STATE LIMIT. THE
VOTE WAS 12 TO NOTHING. COUNTY LEGISLATORS WILL RECEIVE
THE BUDGET BY NOVEMBER 1ST.


A STOCKPORT MAN IS IN THE ALBANY COUNTY JAIL,
ACCUSED OF MISSING TWO COURT APPEARANCES FROM HIS
AUGUST ARREST ON FELONY DRUG CHARGES. 37 YEAR OLD
JOHN DOBROUCH WAS ARRESTED ON A WARRANT AND TURNED
OVER TO STATE POLICE AT THE CAPITAL. BAIL IS 5500
DOLLARS.


A GERMANTOWN MAN, WHO WAS CHARGED WITH RAPE BACK IN
MAY, WAS SENTENCED YESTERDAY IN COLUMBIA COUNTY
COURT. 21 YEAR OLD TREVOR DISHER WILL SPEND THE
NEXT 6 MONTHS IN COUNTY JAIL AND SERVE 10 YEARS
PROBATION. EARLIER HE ADMITTED TO HAVING SEX
WITH A VICTIM UNDER 15.


THE HUDSON MAN WHO ASSAULTED AN EMPLOYEE AT THE
GREENPORT RADIO SHACK, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STEAL
MERCHANDISE, WAS ALSO SENTENCED THIS WEEK. 40 YEAR
OLD CLYDE WILBURN WILL SERVE ONE YEAR IN COUNTY
JAIL. THE INCIDENT OCCURED IN APRIL.


A CATSKILL MAN WAS SENT TO THE GREENE COUNTY JAIL
AFTER ALLEGEDLY SHOPLIFTING AT THE CATSKILL WALMART.
VILLAGE POLICE CHARGED 20 YEAR OLD ADAM WHITE WITH
PETIT LARCENY. HE ALSO FACES TWO COUNTS OF FAILURE
TO PAY A FINE. BAIL WAS SET AT 1500 DOLLARS.


CATSKILL FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO THE GREENE COUNTY
SHERIFF'S OFFICE YESTERDAY AFTER THE BUILDING
BEGAN FILLING WITH SMOKE. THE PROBLEM WAS BELIEVED
TO BE ELECTRICAL. AN AREA OF BRIDGE STREET WAS
CLOSED FOR A PERIOD.


NIVERVILLE FIREMEN WERE ON THE SCENE OF A ONE CAR
ACCIDENT WEDNESDAY. THE VEHICLE STRUCK A POLE ON
ROUTE 203, BRINGING DOWN WIRES. NATIONAL GRID
WAS NOTIFIED.


THE THIRD DEBATE IN THE RACE FOR THE 19TH CONGRESSIONAL
DISTRICT IS TONIGHT ON WMHT. CONGRESSMAN CHRIS GIBSON
AND OPONENT SEAN ELDRIDGE WILL FACE OFF AT 8PM.

THE GREENE COUNTY MAN WHO ROBBED BANKS IN SAUGERTIES
AND NEW PALTZ, WAS SENTENCED YESTERDAY IN ULSTER
COUNTY COURT. 49 YEAR OLD COLLIN LAMBERT OF
TANNERSVILLE RECEIVED TWO CONSECUTIVE TERMS OF THREE
TO SIX YEARS IN STATE PRISON. HE WAS ALSO ORDERED
TO PAY 3100 DOLLARS RESTITUTION.


A SOUTH CAIRO WOMAN IS FACING CHARGES AFTER HER
ARREST AT THE CATSKILL WALMART. CATSKILL POLICE
CHARGED 26 YEAR OLD ELEXIS ENGELHARDT WITH BURGULARY
AND PETIT LARCENY. SHE WAS SENT TO THE GREENE
COUNTY JAIL ON 5000 DOLLARS BAIL.


A NEW YORK CITY MAN WAS CHARGED WITH INTRODUCING
CONTRABAND TO PRISON, AFTER HIS ARREST AT THE
GREENE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY. 20 YEAR OLD JOSHUA
FIGUEROA WAS ALSO CHARGED WITH MARIJUANA POSESSION
BY STATE POLICE AND HELD ON A BAIL BOND.


FIREFIGHTERS ON THE MOUNTAINTOP FOUGHT A LARGE
BRUSH FIRE YESTERDAY IN LEXINGTON. ALL AVAILABLE
MANPOWER WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE ON ROUTE 13. A
50 YEAR OLD MAN WAS TREATED FOR REPORTED HEAT
EXHAUSTION.


EAST CHATHAM FIRE AND CHATHAM RESCUE RESPONDED TO A
ONE CAR ACCIDENT ON THE BERKSHIRE SPUR OF THE THRUWAY
TUESDAY. THE ELDERLY MAN PASSED OUT BEHIND THE
WHEEL AND STRUCK A GUARDRAIL. THE CRASH WAS IN
THE WESTBOUND LANES IN CANAAN.


EMERGENCY CREWS WERE CALLED TO A ONE CAR ACCIDENT
YESTERDAY MORNING. THE CAR HAD ROLLED OVER ON POND
HILL ROAD IN CHATHAM. ARRIVING UNITS COULD NOT
FIND THE DRIVER. HE RETURNED TO THE SCENE A SHORT
WHILE LATER. THE COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
IS INVESTIGATING.
