HUDSON POLICE HAVE RECOVERED A LOADED .380 AUTOMATIC

HANDGUN, THAT WAS REPORTED LOST TO POLICE IN 2012.

THEY SAY, 27 YEAR OLD FRANK HAWVER WAS IN POSESSION

OF THE WEAPON. HE TOLD POLICE HE FOUND IT IN THE

STREET OVER A YEAR AGO. HE WAS CHARGED WITH

CRIMINAL POSESSION OF A WEAPON AND ISSUED APPEARANCE

TICKETS FOR CITY COURT. 

 

 

FIREMEN IN CAIRO WERE KEPT BUSY WEDNESDAY WITH TWO

STRUCTURE FIRES ON MAIN STREET. THE FIRST CALL CAME

IN JUST BEFORE 10:30AM AT 493 MAIN STREET. THE SECOND

FIRE WAS AT 606 MAIN STREET JUST AFTER 2PM. MUTUAL

AID FROM OTHER COMPANIES WAS REQUESTED AT BOTH FIRES.

 

 

FIRE AND RESCUE CREWS WERE CALLED TO ROUTE 22 IN

NEW LEBANON YESTERDAY MORNING, AFTER A CAR STRUCK A

UTILITY POLE. THE ACCIDENT WAS AT OLD POST ROAD.

TWO PEOPLE HAD MINOR INJURIES. THE ROAD WAS REPORTED

TO BE ICY.

 

 

A GERMANTOWN MAN WAS SENT TO THE ULSTER COUNTY JAIL,

AFTER BEING ARRESTED ON FOUR WARRANTS FOR FAILING

TO PAY 19,000 DOLLARS IN CHILD SUPPORT. ULSTER COUNTY

SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES ARRESTED 34 YEAR OLD ROBERT POTTER.

HE WILL BEGIN SERVING A SIX MONTH JAIL SENTENCE.

 

 

TWO GREENE COUNTY 15 YEAR OLDS WERE ARRESTED AFTER 

AN ALTERCATION IN CATSKILL. VILLAGE POLICE CHARGED A

15 YEAR OLD BOY FROM GREENVILLE AND A 15 YEAR OLD GIRL

FROM CATSKILL WITH ASSAULT. BOTH WILL ANSWER THE

CHARGES IN FAMILY COURT.

 

 

UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE HUDSON VALLEY CONTINUED TO

DECLINE IN DECEMBER. THE STATE LABOR DEPARTMENT SAYS

GREENE COUNTY WAS DOWN 1.2 PERCENT FROM DECEMBER OF

THE PREVIOUS YEAR. COLUMBIA COUNTY DROPPED .8 PERCENT.

SHELDON SILVER WILL BE STEPPING DOWN AS STATE ASSEMBLY

LEADER MONDAY, AFTER TWO DAYS OF CLOSED DOOR CONFRENCES. 

HE'LL RETAIN HIS ASSEMBLY SEAT. JOE MORELLE WILL TAKE 

OVER AS INTERIM SPEAKER. THE VOTE FOR A NEW SPEAKER IS 

EXPECTED FEBRUARY 10TH.

 

 

THE SNOW EMERGENCY ENDED EARLY IN HUDSON. MAYOR

HALLENBECK ANNOUNCED THAT AS OF 8PM LAST NIGHT,

NORMAL PARKING WOULD RESUME.

 

 

A SEX OFFENDER FROM HENSONVILLE IS IN THE GREENE COUNTY 

JAIL, ACCUSED OF HAVING FACEBOOK AND G-MAIL ACCOUNTS,

THAT WERE NOT REPORTED TO LAW ENFORCEMENT. THE GREENE

COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT ARRESTED 30 YEAR OLD

DONALD FERRY. BAIL WAS SET AT 5000 DOLLARS.

 

 

FIRE CAUSED HEAVY DAMAGE A BARN IN GREENVILLE YESTERDAY 

AFTERNOON. SEVERAL GREENE COUNTY FIRE COMPANIES FOUGHT 

THE BLAZE IN FRIGID TEMPERATURES AT 1350 RED MILL ROAD. 

ARRIVING UNITS FOUND THE STRUCTURE FULLY INVOLVED.

 

 

WEST GHENT FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO A REPORTED GARAGE

FIRE TUESDAY MORNING ON DEMETER DRIVE IN CLAVERACK.

A CAR INSIDE THE GARAGE WAS DESTROYED. THE BUILDING

HAD SOME DAMAGE.

 

 

THE DRIVER OF A TRACTOR TRAILER WAS TRANSPORTED TO

THE HOSPITAL AFTER CRASHING YESTERDAY ON THE BERKSHIRE 

SPUR OF THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY. THE ACCIDENT WAS IN 

THE WESTBOUND LANES IN NORTH CHATHAM. THE DRIVER 

TOLD POLICE HE BLACKED OUT.

 

 

MONEY IS ON THE WAY TO COLUMBIA AND GREENE COUNTIES

TO ASSIST WITH HOMELESS HOUSING. 13 GRANTS, TOTALING

461 THOUSAND IS FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING

AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT. 160 TOHOSAND IS TO BE USED

FOR PERMANENT HOUSING FOR THE HOMELESS AND MENTALLY 

ILL.

THE AREA IS UNDER A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY THIS

MORNING. HOWEVER, WITH THE STORM TRACKING FARTHER

EAST THAN PREDICTED, FORECASTERS HAVE CUT ACCUMULATIONS

FOR COLUMBIA AND GREENE COUNTIES CONSIDERABLY.

 

 

DUTCHESS AND ULSTER COUNTIES, AND AREAS SOUTH ARE

UNDER A STATE OF EMERGENCY, AND TRAVEL BAN, DECLARED

YESTERDAY BY THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE.

 

 

EVEN THOUGH D.O.T. CREWS WERE OUT ALL NIGHT, MANY ROADS 

REMAIN SLIPPERY THIS MORNING. THERE IS A  LONG LIST OF 

SCHOOL AND CIVIC CLOSINGS. YOU CAN FIND THOSE ON THIS

AMTRAK HAS CANCELLED SERVICE TODAY, BETWEEN ALBANY

AND NEW YORK CITY. SNOW EMERGENCIES AND SPECIAL PARKING 

RULES REMAIN IN EFFECT IN HUDSON, CATSKILL, GREENPORT, 

AND ATHENS.

 

 

THE STORM HAS ALSO CLOSED ALL SCHOOLS IN COLUMBIA AND 

GREENE COUNTIES TODAY. THE STATE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THAT SCHOOL DISTRICTS ARE GIVEN

THE FLEXIBILITY TO POSTPONE THE REGENTS EXAMS, AS

LONG AS THEY ARE GIVEN BY END OF THE DAY FRIDAY.

ADDRESS. CATSKILL POLICE ARRESTED 31 YEAR OLD BRIAN

PROPER OF CATSKILL. BAIL WAS SET AT 25,000 DOLLARS.

 

 

GREENPORT FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO THE HUDSON MCDONALDS

YESTERDAY, FOR A FUEL SPILL AT THE DRIVE-THRU

WINDOW. FIREMEN REPORT THAT FIVE GALLONS HAD SPILLED

AFTER A GAS CAN TIPPED OVER IN THE BACK OF A PICKUP.

ANOTHER WINTER STORM IS HEADED TO THE AREA. THE NATIONAL

WEATHER SERVICE HAS POSTED A WINTER STORM WARNING.

DEPENDING ON THE TRACK OF THE STORM, WE COULD SEE OVER

A FOOT AND A HALF OF SNOW THROUGH TOMORROW. 

 

 

THE VILLAGE OF CATSKILL BEGINS THEIR SNOW

PARKING PLAN TONIGHT. VEHICLES SHOULD BE PARKED ON THE 

ODD SIDE OF THE STREET BEGINNING AT 8PM, THERE WILL BE NO 

PARKING ON MAIN STREET STARTING AT 8PM, FROM GREENE STREET 

TO SUMMITT AVENUE.

 

 

AN EARLTON MAN IS IN THE GREENE COUNTY JAIL ON

FELONY CHARGES. STATE POLICE SAY THEY CAUGHT 43 YEAR

OLD MICHAEL FLORAK WITH A K-9 UNIT, AFTER HE RAN INTO 

THE WOODS OFF PROPERTY ON COUNTY ROUTE 45. THEY ALSO

SAY, SOME OF THE ITEMS FROM A RESIDENTIAL BURGULARY

WERE RECOVERED. HE'S BEING HELD WITHOUT BAIL.

 

 

HUDSON MAYOR WILLIAM HALLENBECK HAS VETOED A RESOLUTION,

PASSED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL, THAT WOULD HIRE A SEPARATE

ATTORNEY, TO PROVIDE LEAGAL SERVICES TO THE COUNCIL.

AMONG THE REASONS FOR THE VETO WERE COST, AND THE

DEFEAT OF A BALLOT REFERENDUM BY CITY VOTERS IN

2006, FOR THE SAME POSITION. THE COUNCIL WILL

ATTEMPT TO OVERRIDE THE VETO IN FEBRUARY.

 

 

THE STATE D.E.C. HAS GIVEN A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH

TO A FORMER CONTAMINATED SITE IN CATSKILL. CENTRAL

HUDSON PERFORMED THE CLEANUP OF THE ONE ACRE PARCEL

ON WATER STREET, WHICH INCLUDED THE CATSKILL CREEK. 

13,000 CUBIC YARDS OF IMPACTED SOIL WAS REMOVED.

 

 

A WATERVLIET MAN IS CHARGED WITH ASSAULT FOR AN

INCIDENT IN NEW LEBANON. THE COLUMBIA COUNTY

SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAYS 31 YEAR OLD JONATHAN VOLLAND

PUNCHED A VICTIM, INJURING THEIR FACE.  HE'LL

APPEAR IN TOWN COURT.

 

 

A CATSKILL WOMAN IS ACCUSED TO FALSELY REPORTING

AN INCIDENT TO STATE POLICE. 51 YEAR OLD JESSICA

HOFFMAN WAS ISSUED AN APPEARANCE TICKET FOR TOWN

COURT.

MOST OF THE AREA IS WAKING UP TO WINTER WEATHER

THIS MORNING. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL BE HEAVIER

TO THE SOUTH AND EAST OF COLUMBIA AND GREENE

COUNTIES. 

 

 

THE VILLAGE OF CATSKILL WILL BEGIN THEIR SNOW

PARKING PLAN THIS MORNING. VEHICLES SHOULD BE

PARKED ON THE EVEN SIDE OF THE STREET FROM 8AM 

TO 8PM, THEN SWITCH TO THE ODD SIDE FOR 12 HOURS.

THERE WILL BE NO M PARKING ON MAIN STREET BEGINNING

AT 8PM TONIGHT, FROM GREENE STREET TO SUMMITT

AVENUE.

 

 

TWO HUDSON RESIDENTS ARE UNDER ARREST, AFTER A DRUG

RAID AT 753 COLUMBIA STREET. CITY POLICE CHARGED

35 YEAR OLD IAN SMITH WITH THREE COUNTS OF CRIMINAL

POSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, AND MARIJUANA

POSESSION. 35 YEAR OLD TARA GRANT WAS CHARGED

WITH CHILD ENDANGERMENT. POLICE SAY THEY RECOVERED

COCAINE, CRACK COCAINE, MARIJUANA, AND 1000 

DOLLARS IN CASH.

 

 

MEANWHILE, HUDSON POLICE ANNOUNCE THE PROMOTION OF

ONE OF IT'S OFFICERS. CHEIF EDWARD MOORE REPORTS

THAT JAMES DELANEY JUNIOR HAS BEEN PROMOTED FROM

SERGEANT TO LIEUTENANT. DELANEY HAS BEEN ON THE

FORCE SINCE 1997.

 

 

A MAN WAS INJURED YESTERDAY MORNING IN A ONE CAR

ACCIDENT IN COPAKE. THE CRASH WAS ON SUNSET ROCK

ROAD. ARRIVING EMERGENCY UNITS REPORTED THE ROAD

TO BE VERY ICY.

 

 

CATSKILL FIRE AND AMBULANCE WERE ALSO CALLED TO 

AN ACCIDENT FRIDAY. THAT WAS WAS AT THE ROUTE

23 AND 385 INTERSECTION.

 

 

AFTER A LARCENY INVESTIGATION IN THE VILLAGE OF

CATSKILL, A HUDSON MAN FACES FELONY CHARGES. 

STATE POLICE ARRESTED 48 YEAR OLD DWIGHT DEGENHARDT.

HE'S CHAGED WITH GRAND LARCENY AND CRIMINAL POSESSION

OF STOLEN PROPERTY, A CREDIT CARD. BAIL WAS SET

AT 1500 DOLLARS.
