STATE LAWMAKERS WORKED INTO THE NIGHT TUESDAY

AND PASSED A 142 BILLION DOLLAR BUDGET. EDUCATION

AND ETHICS REFORMS WERE TIED TO THE SPENDING PLAN.

THE BUDGET PROVIDES 1.3 BILLION IN INCREASED

SCHOOL AID. 

 

 

ALSO INCLUDED IN THE BUDGET: THE CREATION OF

A SEVEN MEMBER PANEL, WHO WOULD DETERMINE IF

THE STATE LEGISLATURE, AND OTHER STATE OFFICIALS,

SHOULD GET A SALARY INCREASE. NEW YORK LAWMAKERS

ARE THE 3RD HIGHEST PAID IN THE COUNTRY, AT

79,500 DOLLARS PER YEAR. THE COMMISSION WILL

MEET EVERY FOUR YEARS.

 

 

A TRAFFIC STOP FOR A CELL PHONE VIOLATION, HAS

LANDED A PHILMONT WOMAN IN THE COLUMBIA COUNTY

JAIL, FACING CHARGES IN PENNSYLVANIA. STATE POLICE

SAY, 29 YEAR OLD SANDY DIEHL IS WANTED AS A

FUGITIVE FROM PENNSYLVANIA FOR FAILING TO APPEAR ON 

CHARGES OF DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE AND RECKLESS 

DRIVING. EXTRADITION PROCEEDINGS ARE BEING HANDLED 

BY THE COLUMBIA COUNTY D.A.'S OFFICE.

 

 

A TRAFFIC STOP ON ROUTE 23 IN CATSKILL ENDS WITH

A BROOKLYN MAN IN THE GREENE COUNTY JAIL ON

9 FELONY CHARGES. 25 YEAR OLD KENDALL GEORGE IS

CHARGED WITH FIVE COUNTS OF CRIMINAL POSESSION OF

STOLEN PROPERTY AND FOUR COUNTS OF POSESSION OF

A FORGED INSTRUMENT. STATE POLICE SAY HE WAS IN

POSESSION OF STOLEN CREDIT CARDS.

 

 

A 17 YEAR OLD GIRL WAS TAKEN TO COLUMBIA MEMORIAL

AFTER HER CAR STRUCK A POLE YESTERDAY MORNING

IN THE TOWN OF CHATHAM. TRI-VILLAGE FIRE AND

CHATHAM RESCUE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE ON COUNTY

ROUTE 28.

 

 

CONGRESSMAN CHRIS GIBSON SPENT TUESDAY AFTERNOON

AT THE HUDSON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL. HE WAS THERE

TO MEET WITH STUDENTS AND STAFF AT THE DISTRICT'S

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM.

 

 

DAVID CASSIDY WON'T BE IN SCHODACK TOWN COURT 

TONIGHT. IN FACT, HE WON'T HAVE TO APPEAR AT ALL.

IT WAS DECIDED YESTERDAY, THE FORMER TEEN IDOL

CAN BE SENTENCED BY MAIL FOR HIS 2013 DRUNK

DRIVING CASE. CASSIDY LIVES IN FLORIDA.

A TRAFFIC STOP ON COUNTY ROUTE 19 IN ELIZAVILLE

HAS LEAD TO BURGULARY CHARGES FOR AN ELIZAVILLE MAN.

THE COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAYS 29 YEAR

OLD BOBBY JOE DAYTON ADMITTED HIS INVOLVEMENT IN

THE BURGULARY OF A HOUSE UNDER RENOVATION ON

JACKSON CORNER'S ROAD. TOOLS AND COPPER PIPING

WERE TAKEN IN THE BREAK-IN. DAYTON IS BEING

HELD IN THE COLUMBIA COUNTY JAIL, WITHOUT BAIL.

 

 

A HILLSDALE WOMAN WAS ALSO CHARGED WITH FELONY

BURGULARY, FROM AN INCIDENT, IN TOWN, MARCH 2ND.

STATE POLICE ARRESTED 24 YEAR OLD JAMIE MACHAFFIE

ON ROUTE 23. SHE WAS HELD AFTER BEING CHARGED.

 

 

A CATSKILL MAN FACES MENACING AND CRIMINAL

MISCHEIF CHARGES AFTER HIS ARREST ON MAIN STREET IN

THE VILLAGE. CATSKILL POLICE REPORT 27 YEAR OLD

ALBERT SQUIRES WAS RELEASED, PENDING A COURT

APPEARANCE.

 

 

CONSTRUCTION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN SOON, ON THE

BRIDGE CARRYING ROUTE 66 OVER THE CLAVERACK

CREEK, ON THE GREENPORT-CLAVERACK LINE. STATE

D O T REPORTS THE 3.9 MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT

WAS AWARDED LAST WEEK. THE PROJECT IS ESTIMATED

TO BE COMPLETED BY NEXT MAY. NO WORD YET, ON

WHICH LANES WILL BE CLOSED WHEN CONSTRUCTION

BEGINS.

 

 

HUDSON FIRE AND GREENPORT RESCUE RESPONDED TO

NORTH 6TH STREET AT UNDERHILL POND, AFTER

A VEHICLE ROLLED OVER. COLUMBIA COUNTY 9 1 1

REPORTS THAT THE DRIVER WAS NOT TRANSPORTED

TO THE HOSPITAL. FIREMEN WERE ON THE SCENE

FOR ABOUT AN HOUR.

 

 

TYRONE HEDGPETH HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO RUN THE HUDSON 

DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH, ON A TEMPORARY BASIS. HUDSON 

MAYOR WILLIAM HALLENBECK SAYS HEDGPETH TAKES OVER 

FOR GEORGE BEDNAR, WHO RETIRED FROM THE POSITION.

STATE OFFICIALS SAY AN AGREEMENT HAS BEEN REACHED

ON THE 2015 STATE BUDGET. THE DEAL REPORTEDLY INCLUDES

EDUCATION REFORMS AND AN ETHICS PACKAGE. DETAILS

WILL BE RELEASED LATER TODAY.

 

 

JOB GROWTH IN GREENE AND COLUMBIA COUNTIES HAS

BEEN VERY GOOD OVER THE PAST 12 MONTHS. IN NUMBERS

FROM THE STATE LABOR DEPARTMENT, GREENE COUNTY

GAINED THE MOST JOBS, PERCENTAGE WISE, IN THE

HUDSON VALLEY, AT 3.9 PERCENT. THEY ALSO RANKED

SECOND IN THE STATE. COLUMBIA COUNTY WAS SECOND IN

THE REGION AND THIRD IN THE STATE, AT 2.6 PERCENT.

 

 

TWO MEN FACE CHARGES AFTER A TRAFFIC STOP ON

ROUTE 23 IN CLAVERACK. STATE POLICE REPORT 43 YEAR 

OLD EDIN MOWRIS OF HUDSON WAS CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL 

POSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE AND ISSUED 

APPEARANCE TICKETS FOR COURT. AND 25 YEAR OLD

BILLY SIMPSON OF CLAVERACK WAS CHARGED WITH

AGGRAVATED DWI AND MARIJUANA POSESSION. HE WAS

HELD FOLLOWING HIS ARREST.

 

 

AN INCIDENT IN THE TOWN OF GERMANTOWN HAS

LANDED A TOWN MAN UNDER ARREST. STATE POLICE 

CHARGED 29 YEAR OLD JASON ROBERTS WITH ASSAULT, 

WITH INTENT TO CAUSE PHYSICAL INJURY. HE'LL

ANSWER THE CHARGES IN TOWN COURT.

 

 

A KINDERHOOK MAN WAS CHARGED WITH MENACING, 

FOLLOWING A DOMESTIC INCIDENT IN TOWN. 41 YEAR

OLD JEREMY SMART WAS HELD ON A BAIL BOND

AFTER HIS ARREST.

 

 

FIRE AND RESCUE CREWS WERE ON THE SCENE OF

TWO PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENTS YESTERDAY. THE

FIRST WAS ON ROUTE 32 IN CATSKILL. THE SECOND

WAS IN THE NORTHBOUND LANES OF THE THRUWAY,

IN NEW BALTIMORE.

 

 

AREA FIREMEN RESPONDED TO CHIMNEY FIRES ON

SATURDAY. CAIRO FIREMEN WERE AT 325 JOEL M. 

AUSTIN ROAD, STOCKPORT FIREMEN WERE AT 243 

ROUTE 9J.

 

 

WITH BOATING SEASON JUST AROUND THE CORNER,

A NEW YORK SAFE BOATING COURSE WILL BE HELD

TONIGHT AND TOMORROW NIGHT AT THE PHILMONT

COMMUNITY CENTER. IT'S OPEN TO ANYONE OVER

THE AGE OF 10 AND TAKES PLACE FROM 6 TO 10PM.

THE COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE WAS CALLED TO A

HOME ON STONE MILL ROAD IN CLAVERACK FRIDAY MORNING

AFTER A THREE YEAR OLD GIRL WAS REPORTED TO HAVE

WANDERED AWAY FROM HER HOME. THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE

REPORTS THIS MORNING, THE GIRL WAS FOUND SAFE.

 

 

TWO COXSACKIE MEN FACE CHARGES FROM AN INCIDENT 

THREE YEARS AGO. STATE POLICE SAY 55 YEAR OLD JOHN 

KOMAROMI AND 24 YEAR OLD KRISTOPHER KOMAROMI DAMAGED 

A RESIDENCE AND MOVED OUT OF STATE. THEY WERE 

ARRESTED THIS WEEK AFTER RETURNING TO THE AREA. 

THEY WERE CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL MISCHEIF AND UNLAWFUL 

GROWING OF CANNABIS. BOTH MEN ARE BEING HELD ON 1500 

DOLLARS BAIL.

 

 

A CATSKILL MAN IS CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL CONTEMPT

FOR ALLEGEDLY VIOLATING AN ORDER OF PROTECTION.

20 YEAR OLD DENNIS BERSCH WAS ARRESTED BY STATE

POLICE ON THE COLUMBIA COUNTY SIDE OF THE RIP VAN

WINKLE BRIDGE AND HELD AFTER BEING CHARGED.

 

 

HUDSON FIRE AND GREENPORT RESCUE WERE CALLED

TO A TWO CAR ACCIDENT FRIDAY MORNING. RESCUE

CREWS TREATED THE INJURED AT 6TH AND STATE

STREETS.

 

 

THERE MAY BE A PROMOTION IN THE FUTURE FOR SENATOR 

CHUCK SCHUMER. RETIRING SENATE MINORITY LEADER HARRY

REID SAY'S HE'S BACKING SCHUMER TO SUCCEED HIM.

HE'S CURRENTLY THE DEMOCRAT'S THIRD IN COMMAND.

 

 

THE 5TH ANNUAL VIETNAM VETERANS DAY SERVICES TAKE

PLACE THIS MORNING AT THE COLUMBIA COUNTY COURTHOUSE.

THE PROGRAM BEGINS AT 10AM. THE GUEST SPEAKER WILL BE

VETERAN ROBERT LAPORTA.

OPEN HOUSE TODAY. IT'S FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS,

AN ANNUAL REPORT, THAT RANKS THE COUNTIES OF

EACH STATE ON HEALTH FACTORS, PUTS GREENE

COUNTY CLOSE TO THE BOTTOM IN NEW YORK STATE.

OF 62 COUNTIES, GREENE IS JUST ABOVE SULLIVAN

COUNTY AND THE BRONX. THE SURVEY LOOKS AT MEDICAL

CARE, EDUCATION, JOBS, SMOKING, AND ACCESS TO

HEALTHY FOODS. COLUMBIA COUNTY WAS NUMBER 35,

ROCKLAND COUNTY CAME OUT ON TOP.

 

 

OVER 800 HOMES WERE IN THE DARK LAST NIGHT IN

THE STUYVESANT, STUYVESANT FALLS AREA. NATIONAL

GRIS CREWS WORKED INTO THE EVENING. ALL HOMES

HAVE POWER RESTORED THIS MORNING.

 

 

ONE PERSON WAS TAKEN TO COLUMBIA MEMORIAL AFTER

THEIR CAR ROLLED OVER LAST NIGHT IN GHENT. THE

CRASH WAS ON ROUTE 66 NEAR SNYDER ROAD.

 

 

FIRE AND RESCUE CREWS WERE CALLED TO COUNTY ROUTE

13 IN THE TOWN OF CHATHAM AFTER A CAR ROLLED OVER

NEAR LUNDY LANE. STATE POLICE REPORT THE DRIVER

REFUSED MEDICAL ATTENTION. 

 

 

COXSACKIE FIREMEN WERE ON THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT

ON THE THRUWAY YESTERDAY. IT HAPPENED IN THE

SOUTHBOUND LANES, JUST AFTER 6PM.

 

 

AN ATHENS MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER A DOMESTIC

INCIDENT IN THE VILLAGE. STATE POLICE CHARGED

30 YEAR OLD JOSEPH MIROCCO WITH ASSAULT. HE'S

SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN COURT.

 

 

THE TWO MEN, WHO WERE CHARGED LAST YEAR WITH STEALING

COPPER PIPING FROM A HOME UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN

AUSTERLITZ, PLED GUILTY IN COLUMBIA COUNTY COURT.

33 YEAR OLD JEREMY FRICK OF CLAVERACK AND 33 YEAR

OLD RUSSELL VICCARO OF CATSKILL BOTH PLED GUILTY

TO PETIT LARCENY. THEY'RE SCHEDULED TO BE

SENTENCED MAY 6TH.

 

 

NEW YORK STATE WILL AWARD 46 MILLION DOLLARS IN GRANTS

TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES, THAT NEED HELP FIXING OLD SEWER 

SYSTEMS. THE WORD CAME YESTERDAY FROM THE STATE'S 

ENVIRONMENTAL FACILITIES CORPORATION. A BREAK-OUT

OF WHICH COMMUNITIES WILL BE GETTING FUNDS, HAS

NOT BEEN RELEASED.
