COLUMBIA-GREENE COUNTY NEWS 10-23-14


STATE POLICE HAVE MADE AN ARREST IN A BURGULARY
INVESTIGATION FROM LAST NOVEMBER IN THE TOWN OF
NEW LEBANON. 34 YEAR OLD CHAD LUTZ OF NORTH ADAMS
MASSACHUSETTS WAS CHARGED WITH FELONY BURGULARY. HE
WAS HELD BY POLICE AFTER HIS ARREST.


HUDSON POLICE SAY, A CITY MAN FLED FROM THEM WHILE
THEY WERE ATTEMPTING TO TAKE HIM INTO CUSTODY ON A
WARRANT FOR POSESSING STOLEN PROPERTY. 24 YEAR OLD
NICHOTA BADILA WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN ROPE ALLEY.
HE'S CHARGED WITH RESISTING ARREST AND CRIMINAL
POSESSION OF STOLEN PROPERTY. BAIL WAS SET AT 3500
DOLLARS.


A SYRACUSE MAN WAS SENT TO THE GREENE COUNTY JAIL
AFTER HIS ARREST ON MAIN STREET IN CATSKILL. VILLAGE
POLICE CHARGED 55 YEAR OLD FOUDIL BARKAT WITH CRIMINAL
POSESSION OF A WEAPON AND MENACING. HE WAS HELD WITHOUT
BAIL.


14 YEAR OLD TAYLOR OLMSTED OF RAVENA WAS RETURNED HOME
SAFELY ON WEDNESDAY, AFTER BEING LOCATED IN SCRANTON
PENNSYLVANIA THE NIGHT BEFORE. TOWN OF COEYMANS POLICE
SAY 20 YEAR OLD JULIAN ROSADO WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
BY AUTHORITIES IN GREENE COUNTY. HE WAS ARRAIGNED IN
RAVENA VILLAGE COURT ON CHARGES OF SECOND DEGREE RAPE
AND SENT TO THE ALBANY COUNTY JAIL.


SEVERAL GREENE COUNTY FIRE COMPANIES WERE CALLED TO
FIGHT A FIRE IN THE WOODS YESTERDAY MORNING IN PALENVILLE.
THE FIRE BLACKENED AN AREA OFF ROUTE 23A, NEAR STONY
BROOK ROAD.


ATHENS FIREMEN RESPONDED TO A HOME ON ROUTE 9W
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AFTER THE RESIDENCE BEGAN FILLING WITH
SMOKE. IT TURNED OUT TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE FURNACE.

A PHILMONT TEEN IS IN THE COLUMBIA COUNTY JAIL, ON
FELONY ASSAULT CHARGES FROM A FIGHT IN THE VILLAGE,
WHERE ANOTHER MAN WAS STABBED IN THE CHEST. STATE POLICE
ARRESTED 17 YEAR OLD JOSHUA CHARRON, HE'S BEING HELD
WITHOUT BAIL. POLICE SAY THE VICTIM'S INJURIES WERE NOT
LIFE THREATENING.


A COXSACKIE MAN WAS SENT TO THE GREENE COUNTY JAIL
AFTER A DOMESTIC DISPUTE IN THE TOWN. 30 YEAR OLD
JOSEPH MAZAL WAS CHARGED BY STATE POLICE WITH ASSAULT,
AND FELONY CRIMINAL POSESSION OF A WEAPON. BAIL WAS
SET AT 30,000 DOLLARS.


ANOTHER COXSACKIE MAN IS FACING CHARGES IN THE VILLAGE
OF CATSKILL, FOR AN INCIDENT REPORTED IN SEPTEMBER.
CATSKILL POLICE CHARGED 24 YEAR OLD JAMES MARROTT
WITH CRIMINAL MISCHEIF AND RECKLESS PROPERTY DAMAGE.
HE'S BEING HELD ON 15,000 DOLLARS BAIL.


COEYMAN'S POLICE ARE ASKING FOR THE PUBLIC'S HELP IN
FINDING A 14 YEAR OLD TOWN GIRL, WHO WAS REPORTED
MISSING BY HER PARENTS MONDAY. TAYLOR OLMSTED WAS LAST
SEEN NEAR THE OAK BROOK MANOR APARTMENTS IN RAVENA, AFTER
GETTING OFF THE SCHOOL BUS. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS
ASKED TO CALL POLICE AT 756-2059.


COXSACKIE FIREMEN RESPONDED TUESDAY MORNING TO DUCOMMUN
AEROSTRUCTURES IN COXSACKIE, WHEN HYDRAULIC
EQUPIMENT CAUGHT FIRE JUST BEFORE 6AM. EMPLOYEES
WERE EVACUATED FROM THE BUILDING, ON FLINT MINE ROAD.


AN APPLIANCE FIRE BROUGHT VALATIE FIREMEN TO THE VALATIE
WOODS APARTMENTS ON RIVER STREET YESTERDAY. THERE WAS
NO DAMAGE TO THE STRUCTURE.


A 20 YEAR OLD MAN HAD INJURIES TO HIS LEG AND FACE, AFTER
A ONE CAR ACCIDENT YESTERDAY. KISKATOM FIRE AND CATSKILL
AMBULANCE RESPONDED TO THE CRASH ON ROUTE 23A.


THE LAST DEBATE WITH CHRIS GIBSON AND SEAN ELDRIDGE
IS TONIGHT. THE CANDIDATES FOR THE 19TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
SEAT WILL FACE OFF AT THE TIME WARNER STUDIOS IN ALBANY.

COXSACKIE FIREMEN RESPONDED JUST BEFORE 6 THIS MORNING
TO DUCOMMUN AEROSTRUCTURES. THE FIRE, AT
2 FLINT MINE ROAD INVOLVES HYDRAULIC EQUIPMENT. ALL
AVAILABLE MANPOWER WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE.


THE COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE HAS RELEASED
MORE INFORMATION ON THE MAN THAT WAS SHOT IN BOTH
LEGS WITH AN ARROW SATURDAY IN COPAKE. THEY SAY THE
VICTIM WAS 52 YEAR OLD BRETT MINNEY OF BRIMFIELD
MASSACHUSETTS. HE WAS HUNTING DEER WITH HIS FATHER
ON PRIVATE PROPERTY WHEN HIS FATHER ACCIDENTLY
SHOT HIM. NO CRIMINAL CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED.


AN 88 YEAR OLD PALENVILLE MAN IS IN THE ULSTER COUNTY
JAIL, ACCUSED OF THREATENING A FORMER GIRLFRIEND IN
SAUGERTIES, VIOLATING AN ORDER OF PROTECTION. STATE
POLICE SAY FREDERICK EDWARDS IS ON PAROLE FOR A 2005
ATTEMPTED MURDER CONVICTION, WHERE HE USED A HANDGUN IN
AN ATTEMPT TO MURDER HIS GIRLFRIEND. HE'S BEING HELD ON
5000 DOLLARS BAIL.


A CATSKILL MAN FACES GRAND LARCENY CHARGES AFTER
ALLEGEDLY BEING IN POSESSION OF A STOLEN CREDIT CARD.
CATSKILL POLICE ARRESTED 58 YEAR OLD BRIAN COLE.
HE'S BEING HELD ON 5000 DOLLARS BAIL.


FIRE AND RESCUE CREWS WERE ON THE SCENE OF TWO
PERSONAL INJURY CAR ACCIDENTS MONDAY. THE FIRST WAS
ON ROUTE 9 IN KINDERHOOK. THE SECOND WAS ON ROUTE
145 IN DURHAM.


A COLUMBIA COUNTY FARM WILL BENEFIT FROM MONEY, ANNOUNCED
YESTERDAY BY THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE. THE COLUMBIA LAND
CONSERVANCE HAS BEEN AWARDED  OVER A MILLION DOLLARS TO
PROTECT RONNYBROOK FARM IN ANCRAM. 17.6 MILLION WAS
AWARDED STATEWIDE TO HELP PRESERVE 21 FARMS.


OVER 85 COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES WILL BE REPRESENTED
TONIGHT AT COLUMBIA GREENE COMMUNITY COLLEGE. THE ANNUAL
COLLEGE NIGHT PROGRAM IS FROM 6 TO 7:30 IN THE GYM.


THE MEGA MILLIONS JACKPOT CONTINUES TO GROW. WITH NO
WINNER LAST FRIDAY, TONIGHT'S JACKPOT HAS JUMPED TO

A SERIOUS ACCIDENT SATURDAY NIGHT SENT THREE PEOPLE
TO AREA HOSPITALS. TAGHKANIC FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO THE
TACONIC PARKWAY AT ROUTE 82, WHERE A CAR ROLLED OVER
IN THE NORTHBOUND LANES. ONE PERSON WAS AIRLIFTED TO
ALBANY MED, TWO OTHERS WERE TAKEN TO COLUMBIA
MEMORIAL.


AN 81 YEAR OLD MAN DIED SUNDAY AFTERNOON AFTER A 2
CAR ACCIDENT IN RED HOOK. POLICE IDENTIFIED HIM AS
IRVING DONAHUE OF RED HOOK. THE CRASH WAS ON WEST
MARKET STREET.


A BICYCLE RIDER WAS TAKEN TO NORTHERN DUTCHESS
HOSPITAL YESTERDAY, AFTER THEY COLLIDED WITH A CAR
IN CLERMONT. THE ACCIDENT WAS ON COUNTY ROUTE 6.


THE COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE IS INVESTIGATING
AN INCIDENT IN COPAKE SATURDAY, WHERE A MAN WAS
SHOT THROUGH BOTH LEGS WITH AN ARROW. FIRE AND
RESCUE CREWS RESPONDED TO THE SCENE, ON COUNTY
ROUTE 7. THE MAN WAS AIRLIFTED TO ALBANY MED.


ANOTHER MAN WAS TAKEN TO ALBANY MED BY HELICOPTER
AFTER HE WAS PINNED UNDER A ROLLED OVER TRACTOR.
FIRE AND RESCUE CREWS WERE CALLED TO AN AREA
OFF ROUTE 22 IN CANAAN. STATE POLICE ARE
INVESTIGATING.


A SELKIRK MAN IS FACING FELONY CHARGES AFTER HIS
ARREST BY STATE POLICE FOR AN INCIDENT IN THE TOWN OF
COXSACKIE. 25 YEAR OLD NICHOLAS MERRILL IS CHARGED WITH
RAPE, WITH A VICTIM UNDER 17. HE WAS ALSO CHARGED WITH
FORCIBLE TOUCHING AND HELD ON CASH BAIL.


A COHOES MAN IS ACCUSED OF BRINGING ILLEGAL CONTRABAND
INTO THE BROOKWOOD SECURE CENTER IN CLAVERACK. STATE
POLICE CHARGED 40 YEAR OLD MIAH BURNS WITH OFFICIAL
MISCONDUCT AND INTRODUCING ILLEGAL CONTRABAND INTO
PRISON. HE WAS CHARGED AT THE LIVINGSTON BARRACKS
AND GIVEN APPEARANCE TICKETS FOR COURT.


ANOTHER ARREST BY CATSKILL POLICE, AT THE CATSKILL
WALMART. 25 YEAR OLD SARA GAYLORD OF PHILMONT WAS
CHARGED WITH PETIT LARCENY AND BURGULARY FOR
ALLEGEDLY SHOPLIFTING AT THE STORE. THE BURGULARY
CHARGE IS BECAUSE THE WOMAN IS NOT PERMITTED AT
THE STORE.

AN EAST DURHAM MAN IS IN THE GREENE COUNTY JAIL ON
FELONY DRUG CHARGES. STATE POLICE REPORT 33 YEAR
OLD WILLIAM MARINO WAS INDICTED BY A GREENE COUNTY
GRAND JURY AFTER A MONTH LONG INVESTIGATION INTO
THE SALE OF HEROIN AND SUBOXONE IN THE TOWNS OF
DURHAM AND CAIRO. HE'S BEING HELD WITHOUT BAIL.


TWO PRATTSVILLE MEN ARE ACCUSED OF STEALING OVER
17 THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM A CUSTOMER OF THEIR BUSINESS,
PARADISE COMPUTERS. STATE POLICE CHARGED 44 YEAR OLD
LAWRENCE LUDWIG AND 69 YEAR OLD CHARLES DAVIS WITH
FELONY GRAND LARCENY. BOTH MEN WERE SENT TO THE
GREENE COUNTY JAIL.


TWO COLUMBIA COUNTY RESIDENTS ARE CHARGED WITH
FALSELY REPORTING AN INCIDENT, AFTER FIREMEN WERE
CALLED TO 4976 ROUTE 81 IN GREENVILLE THURSDAY
EVENING. THE TWO, 17 YEAR OLD SHANNON THORNTON OF
HILLSDALE AND A 15 YEAR OLD CRARYVILLE GIRL, WERE
GIVEN APPEARANCE TICKETS BY STATE POLICE.


SEVERAL FIRE COMPANIES WERE ON THE SCENE OF A SHED
FIRE YESTERDAY IN NIVERVILLE. THE FIRE, A 3 KIPP LANE
ALSO INVOLVED A WOOD PILE.


RESCUE CREWS FROM DUTCHESS AND ULSTER COUNTY RESPONDED
TO THE HUDSON RIVER YESTERDAY AFTER A KAYAK OVERTURNED
SOUTH OF KRUGER ISLAND IN RED HOOK. THE MAN WAS PULLED
TO SAFETY AROUND A HALF HOUR LATER.


MEMBERS OF THE HUDSON VALLEY SMART ENERGY COALITION
WILL HOLD A PROGRAM ON PROPOSED POWER LINES TODAY AT THE
CHURCHTOWN FIREHOUSE. A PRESENTATION WILL BE MADE BY AN
INDEPENDENT PHYSICIST, THAT WILL SHOW EXISTING
POWERLINES CAN MEET DEMAND WELL INTO THE FUTURE. THE
PROPOSED TRANSMISSION LINES WOULD PASS THROUGH SEVEN
COUNTIES. THE PROGRAM RUNS FROM 1 TO 3PM.
