STREET, THE ORGANIZATION SAYS THEY'LL BE GOING

DOOR TO DOOR WITH INFORMATION ABOUT FIRE

PREPAREDNESS AND PREVENTION. THEY WILL ALSO

OFFER HUDSON RESIDENTS FREE SMOKE ALARMS,

WITH A FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENT. HUDSON MAYOR

WILLIAM HALLENBECK WILL BE PART OF THE GROUP.

 

 

MEANWHILE, THE MAYOR SAYS DONATED ITEMS FOR

THE VICTIMS CAN BE DROPPED OFF AT CITY HALL,

520 WARREN STREET, WEEKDAYS BETWEEN 8:30 AND 5.

 

 

HUDSON D.P.W. CREWS WERE KEPT BUSY YESTERDAY

WITH A WATER MAIN BREAK ON FAIRVIEW AVENUE. THE

BREAK CLOSED THE ROAD BETWEEN COLUMBIA STREET

AND GREEN STREET.

 

 

A TRAFFIC STOP ON STATE STREET IN HUDSON HAS

LANDED A CITY MAN IN THE COLUMBIA COUNTY JAIL.

HUDSON POLICE SAY 42 YEAR OLD EDWIN RIVERA 

WAS IN POSESSION OF 39 PACKETS OF HEROIN AND

600 DOLLARS IN CASH. HE'S CHARGED WITH FELONY

DRUG POSESSION.

 

 

A HUDSON WOMAN WAS SENT TO THE GREENE COUNTY

JAIL, AFTER HER ARREST AT THE CATSKILL WALMART.

VILLAGE POLICE CHARGED 47 YEAR OLD HELENA HAMM

WITH FELONY BURGULARY AND PETIT LARCENY. 

BAIL WAS SET AT 5000 DOLLARS.

 

 

AN ELIZAVILLE MAN FACES CHARGES FROM A DOMESTIC

INCIDENT IN THE TOWN OF TAGHKANIC. 20 YEAR OLD

MATTHEW SMITH IS CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL MISCHEIF

AND HARASSMENT. HE'S SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN TOWN 

COURT.

 

 

WINDHAM FIREMEN RESPONDED TO A REPORTED STRUCTURE

FIRE YESTERDAY MORNING. THE CALL CAME IN JUST

BEFORE 10AM AT 27 MILL STREET. ANY DAMAGE WAS

MINOR.

 

 

GOVERNOR CUOMO WANTS TO RAISE THE STATE'S

MINIMUM WAGE TO 10.50 AN HOUR. HE ANNOUNCED HIS

PLAN YESTERDAY AT A SPEECH IN BUFFALO. THE 

MINIMUM WAGE IS SCHEDULED TO RISE TO 9 DOLLARS

AN HOUR AT THE END OF THE YEAR, BUT THE GOVERNOR

SAYS THAT'S NOT ENOUGH.

A GREENPORT MAN WILL SPEND THE NEXT SEVEN YEARS

IN PRISON, FOR STABBING A HUDSON CAB DRIVER LAST

MAY. 24 YEAR OLD BRUCE PIGFORD WAS SENTENCED

YESTERDAY IN COLUMBIA COUNTY COURT. HE WAS CONVICTED

ON ASSAULT CHARGES IN JANUARY.

 

 

A CATSKILL MAN FACES DRUG CHARGES AFTER A TRAFFIC

STOP ON COUNTY ROUTE 21 IN GHENT. STATE POLICE

SAY 41 YEAR OLD JOHNNY COLON WAS IN POSESSION

ON 2.6 GRAMS OF COCAINE. HE'LL ANSWER THE CHARGES

IN GHENT TOWN COURT.

 

 

TWO PEOPLE FOR TREATED FOR INJURIES YESTERDAY

AFTER THEIR CARS COLLIDED IN STOTTVILLE.

GREENPORT RESCUE AND STOTTVILLE FIRE WERE ON

THE SCENE, ON ROUTE 9 AT ATLANTIC AVENUE.

BOTH WERE TAKEN TO COLUMBIA MEMORIAL.

 

 

TWO PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO COLUMBIA MEMORIAL AFTER 

THEIR PICKUP STRUCK A UTILITY POLE IN CANAAN. CANAAN 

FIRE AND CHATHAM RESCUE RESPONDED TO THE CRASH AT

ROUTE 295 AND COUNTY ROUTE 5. 

 

 

NEW YORK STATE UNVEILED A PLAN MONDAY, THAT WILL 

SPEND CLOSE TO 900 MILLION DOLLARS TO UPGRADE MANY

OF THE STATE'S 180 PARKS AND HISTORIC SITES,

INCLUDING SEVERAL IN THE COLUMBIA-GREENE COUNTY

AREA. PARK COMMISSIONER ROSE HARVEY SAYS THE

WORK WILL TAKE SEVERAL YEARS.

 

 

HOMEOWNERS IN COLUMBIA AND GREENE COUNTIES ARE

EXPECTED TO SAVE OVER 13 MILLION DOLLARS, WITH

THE STATE'S PROPERTY TAX RELIEF PROGRAM.

THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE DETAILED PROJECTED SAVINGS

AS A RESULT OF THE PROGRAM. LOCALLY,

OVER 7700 COLUMBIA COUNTY HOMES WILL RECEIVE

AN AVERAGE CREDIT OF JUST OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS.

IN GREENE COUNTY OVER 5300 HOMES WILL GET AN

AVERAGE CREDIT OF 950 DOLLARS. 

 

 

COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFF DAVID BARTLETT REPORTS

THAT HE'S BEEN ELECTED TO THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

OF THE STATE SHERIFF'S ASSOCIATION. THE VOTING

TOOK PLACE AT THE WINTER TRAINING CONFERENCE

IN ALBANY.

THE RED CROSS IS ASSISTING 25 PEOPLE AFTER A HUDSON

FIRE SATURDAY NIGHT. THE FIRE BROKE OUT JUST AFTER

10:30 AT 336 STATE STREET AND QUICKLY SPREAD TO 338

STATE. FIVE FIRE COMPANIES WERE ON THE SCENE.

THREE FIREFIGHTERS WERE TREATED FOR MINOR INJURIES.

ALL THE RESIDENTS GOT OUT SAFELY. THE CAUSE IS

UNDER INVESTIGATION.

 

 

OTHER FIRES OVER THE WEEKEND INCLUDE A CHIMNEY

FIRE ON COUNTY ROUTE 9 IN AUSTERLITZ, A FURNACE

FIRE ON COUNTY ROUTE 21 IN GHENT, AND AN ELECTRICAL

FIRE ON BROOME STREET IN CATSKILL.

 

 

TWO VEHICLES WERE DESTROYED BY FIRE SATURDAY.

ON COUNTY ROUTE 21 IN STUYVESANT, AND ON THE TACONIC

PARKWAY IN TAGHKANIC.

 

 

ONE PERSON WAS TAKEN TO COLUMBIA MEMORIAL AFTER

THEIR CAR STRUCK A TREE IN GREENPORT. THE ACCIDENT

WAS ON JOSLEN BLVD. 

 

 

AN ACCIDENT IN CATSKILL SATURDAY NIGHT KNOCKED

OUT POWER FOR A PERIOD. CATSKILL FIRE AND AMBULANCE

RESPONDED TO THE CRASH IN JEFFERSON HEIGHTS.

 

 

A WESTERLO MAN FACES FELONY CHARGES AFTER A

TRAFFIC STOP ON ROUTE 23 IN CATSKILL. STATE POLICE

CHARGED 41 YEAR OLD KEVIN GROTTO WITH CRIMINAL

POSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE AND CRIMINAL

POSESION OF MARIJUANA. HE WAS HELD ON CASH BAIL.

FUNERAL TRAIN'S ARRIVAL IN HUDSON, ON THE 150TH 

ANNIVERSARY OF THE EVENT, APRIL 25TH. AUDITIONS

FOR 35 YOUNG WOMEN, WHO WILL SING AT THE EVENT,

WILL BE HELD AT THE HUDSON OPERA HOUSE THIS COMING

ONE PERSON WAS AIRLIFTED TO THE WESTCHESTER

BURN UNIT FRIDAY AFTERNOON, WITH SEVERE BURNS

AFTER AN ACCIDENT IN GREENPORT. GREENPORT RESCUE AND 

POLICE WERE CALLED TO A HOME AT 4071 ROUTE 9. THE 

MAN'S CLOTHES CAUGHT FIRE IN THE GARAGE.

 

 

A 60 YEAR OLD MAN WAS TAKEN TO COLUMBIA MEMORIAL

WITH HEAD INJURIES AFTER FALLING YESTERDAY IN

HUDSON. GREENPORT RESCUE RESPONDED TO THE 

ACCIDENT ON FAIRVIEW AVENUE, NEAR SPRING

STREET.

 

 

ONE PERSON WAS TAKEN TO ALBANY MEMORIAL AFTER TWO 

CARS COLLIDED YESTERDAY IN THE TOWN OF KINDERHOOK.

NIVERVILLE FIRE AND VALATIE RESCUE WERE ON THE

SCENE, ON ROUTE 9H AT OLD POST ROAD.

 

 

AS ONE BOIL WATER ORDER ENDED FRIDAY, ANOTHER

ONE KICKED IN. THE VILLAGE OF CATSKILL CANCELLED 

THEIR BOIL WATER ORDER, AS HUNTER BEGAN ONE.

RESIDENTS IN HUNTER HIGHLANDS PHASE ONE AND TWO, 

AND THE TRAILSIDE AREA, NEED TO BOIL THEIR WATER

UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

 

 

TWO HUDSON RESIDENTS FACE WELFARE FRAUD CHARGES

FOLLOWING THEIR ARREST BY THE COLUMBIA COUNTY

SHERIFF'S OFFICE. 25 YEAR OLD PATRICE WELCH AND

24 YEAR OLD KAYLA HILDENBRAND BOTH FACE FELONY

CHARGES AND HAVE A SCHEDULED COURT APPEARANCE.

FRIDAY MORNING. POLICE WERE ALSO REQUESTED TO

THE FIRE, ON FRIAR TUCK ROAD.

MARKING THE 200TH YEAR OF THE TOWN, WILL BE

HELD TODAY AT THE ATHENS FIREHOUSE ON 3RD

HUDSON MAYOR WILLIAM HALLENBECK IS REQUESTING,

THE COMMON COUNCIL APPROVE HIS ORIGINAL RESIDENTIAL

PARKING PROPOSAL. THE PROPOSAL HAS REPORTEDLY 

BEEN CHANGED SEVERAL TIMES AND NOW INCLUDES UP

TO SIX ADDITIONAL STREETS. THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY

FOR THE COUNCIL TO TAKE UP THE MATTER WILL BE

ON MARCH 9TH.

 

 

A STOCKPORT MAN NOW FACES CHARGES FROM AN

ACCDIENT LAST WEEK IN CLAVERACK. 21 YEAR OLD

TYLER SMITH IS ACCUSED OF STRIKING A POLE ON

COUNTY ROUTE 16 AND LEAVING THE SCENE ON FOOT. 

A 21 YEAR OLD FEMALE PASSENGER WAS TAKEN TO 

COLUMBIA MEMORIAL WITH INJURIES. THE COLUMBIA

COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAYS SMITH FAILED FIELD

SOBRIETY TESTS. HE'S IN THE COLUMBIA COUNTY

JAIL ON 1500 DOLLARS BAIL.

 

 

A VALATIE MAN WAS CHARGED WITH DRIVING WHILE

ABILITY IMPAIRED BY DRUGS, AFTER ENDING UP IN A SNOW

BANK IN NEW LEBANON. STATE POLICE SAY 32 YEAR OLD

NICHOLAS PANETTA WAS NOT INJURED. THEY WERE 

CALLED TO ROUTE 20 AND COUNTY ROUT 13 IN NEW LEBANON

AFTER REPORTS OF AN ERRATIC DRIVER.

 

 

HILLSDALE FIRE AND COPAKE RESCUE WERE CALLED TO 

A HOME ON BUSHNELL ROAD YESTERDAY, FOR A POSSIBLE 

CARBON MONOXIDE PROBLEM. A MALE RESIDENT AT THE

HOME SHOWED SIGNS OF POSSIBLE CARBON MONOXIDE

POISONING.

 

 

THE 5TH ANNUAL "RUN THIS TOWN" BASKETBALL GAME IS 

TONIGHT. IT FEATURING SOME NFL PLAYERS AND LOCAL 

CELEBRITIES AND BEGINS AT 7PM AT HUDSON HIGH SCHOOL. THE 

CHARITY EVENT IS HOSTED BY FORMER NFL PLAYER RASHAD 

BARKSDALE. TOMORROW, BARKSDALE HOSTS THE THREE ON THREE 

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT. IT'S ALSO AT HUDSON HIGH SCHOOL,
